My first ride - ‘91 Chevrolet Beretta in this same color but with a grey interior.  I think I was about 18 when I bought this car.  Even though I was paying for every red cent of it, my dad refused to co-sign on the loan with me because it wasn’t the car he thought I should have.  I had a decent entry-level full-time job and no other bills really, so there was no concern that I wouldn’t be able to afford the payments.  He just seemed to think his daughter should drive something 30 years old that would leave her stranded on the highway every other day.  No, I’m not bitter!  Since he wouldn’t co-sign, my boyfriend’s dad offered to but I wouldn’t let him.  Instead, he (the boyfriend’s dad) went to see his best friend who was a bank branch manager and convinced him to give me a loan without a cosigner, just on his word that I would make the payments.  That was probably the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me….putting their own reputation on the line to help me out.  Not a handout but a hand up, as they say.
At any rate, this was actually a super fun car to drive.  It didn’t look like it would do much, but it would fly and hug a corner like you wouldn’t believe.
